An e-reader fits thousands of books into a slim, handheld device and is much kinder to your eyes than a tablet thanks to its matte display. For the device to be truly enjoyable, it needs to be set up correctly first: Wi-Fi, account, book purchasing and reading settings. Especially for those using such a device for the first time, having someone who explains every step is invaluable. That is exactly what Technik daheim offers: we come to your home, set up your e-reader from scratch and walk you through every step so that afterwards you can independently buy new books, borrow e-books from the library and operate the device exactly as you like.

What We Do for You During E-Reader Setup

From the first login to your finished preferred configuration: we handle all the steps needed for you to read with ease. This starts with connecting to Wi-Fi and extends to setting up library cards for free e-book loans. You set the pace – we explain every step clearly, without jargon.

Connect to Wi-Fi

We connect your e-reader securely to your home network so it can automatically receive new books and updates without you having to transfer anything manually.

Set Up Account

Whether you need a new account or want to use an existing one: we set up access to your shop account and make sure your library is fully available.

Buy the First Book

We show you how to search for titles in the built-in bookshop, purchase books and read them straight away on the device. You practise the process yourself once so it sticks.

Set Up Library Access

With your library card you can borrow e-books free of charge from many public libraries. We set up access to Onleihe or a comparable platform and explain the borrowing process.

Adjust Font and Brightness

We set font size, line spacing, margins and screen brightness to be as comfortable for your eyes as possible. Night light and colour temperature are adjusted to suit you too.

Explain Operation Patiently

Turning pages, setting bookmarks, looking up words, opening the table of contents: we practise the everyday actions together until you feel confident – without rushing and without jargon.

Kindle, Tolino or Another Device – Which E-Reader Suits You?

Differences Explained Clearly

Kindle, Tolino and Other Platforms

The two best-known e-reader platforms in Germany are Kindle and Tolino. Kindle devices are tied to an online shop, offer a very large selection of books and have well-maintained apps for all devices. Tolino devices are sold through German and Austrian bookshops and allow direct purchases from your local bookseller. If you already own a device, there is no need to switch: we set up your existing e-reader and adapt it to your habits. Those who do not yet own a device receive neutral advice on what suits their reading behaviour.

  • Kindle: large selection, family sharing, easy to link with Android and iOS
  • Tolino: direct bookshop connection, library access via Onleihe particularly straightforward
  • Existing devices are set up – no new purchase required

Reading for Free: Library E-Books and Other Sources

An e-reader does not have to be expensive to run. Anyone with a public library card can borrow many e-books free of charge via Onleihe or comparable portals. We set up this access for you, explain the loan periods and show how a borrowed book automatically disappears from the device when the loan period ends – with no overdue fees. There are also thousands of classic works in the public domain that can be downloaded legally and free of charge. We show you how to do that as well if you are interested.

Library card? Then read for free.

With a valid public library card you can start borrowing e-books free of charge via Onleihe right away. We set up the access during your appointment. If you do not yet have a card, we will let you know about the options in your area.

How Your E-Reader Setup Appointment Works

We take our time and proceed at your pace. By the end of the appointment you should be able to operate your e-reader on your own – from buying a book to adjusting the font. We do not move on to the next step until the previous one has really sunk in.

Font Size, Brightness and Other Comfort Settings

One of the greatest advantages of an e-reader over a printed book is the freedom to choose your own font size. Anyone who finds small print tiring simply makes it larger – without needing to buy an expensive large-print edition. We also show you how the warm-toned night light reduces eye strain when reading in the evening and how to adjust the brightness to match the ambient light. Font type, line spacing and margins can all be individualised too. We set all of this up together so that reading is comfortable from the very first page.

Font Size to Your Preference

Any font size is adjustable with a few taps. We find together the size that lets you read comfortably and without strain, and explain how to change it at any time.

Brightness and Night Light

Automatic or manual brightness control and the warm night light are especially gentle on your eyes when reading at dusk or in bed in the evening. We set both to suit you.

Font and Line Spacing

Different font types and generous line spacing can noticeably improve the reading experience. We try out together what feels most comfortable for you.

Dictionary and Translation

One press on an unfamiliar word is all it takes to look it up or translate it. We set up the dictionary and show you how to use the feature conveniently.

Reading E-Books on Other Devices

Kindle books can also be read on a smartphone or tablet, and so can Tolino books. If you would like, we show you how to access your e-books on the go on your smartphone or tablet as well – with the same library and the same reading progress.

What an Appointment Costs

We work with transparent fixed prices so you know exactly what to expect before the appointment. For most e-reader setups, the home-visit flat rate of 79 € for up to 60 minutes is fully sufficient. All prices include VAT for private customers.
