Photos on the phone, documents on the laptop, holiday videos on an external drive somewhere on the shelf: who does not know this? A NAS (Network Attached Storage) solves this problem permanently. It is a small device you connect once to your home network, and every computer, tablet and phone in the household can access it, just like a shared drive on the network. We from Technik daheim set up your network storage at your place, take care of automatic data backup and show you how to access your files from outside the home, without relying on external cloud providers. A NAS only shows its strengths together with a clean data backup and stable Wi-Fi; when moving to a new device we also handle the data transfer.

What a NAS Is and What It Does for You
A NAS is essentially a small network hard drive that stays permanently connected to your router and is available to all devices on the home network. Unlike an external hard drive that you always have to plug in first, the NAS is available at any time: your laptop, your phone and your children's tablet all access it simultaneously. Many devices also support secure remote access, so you can reach your photos and documents even when you are away, without handing your data to a third-party service. For families who take many photos, for anyone who wants to back up important documents reliably, and for everyone who no longer wants to search for where a file actually lives, a NAS is a very practical solution. A good overview of further data backup options is available on our dedicated service page. Our offer under home office setup fits well alongside.
Central storage for the home network
All photos, videos and documents live in one place, accessible from every computer, tablet and phone in the household, with no tangle of cables.
Automatic backup
We set it up so your phone photos and important folders from the computer are automatically backed up to the NAS, with no action required from you.
Data stays in your hands
Your photos and documents remain at your home and are not sent to external data centres. You keep full control over your own data.
Remote access on the go
With the right setup you can securely access your files from your smartphone or a browser even when you are away, without any complex technical know-how.
For the whole family
Each family member can have their own folders and use shared areas, such as a photo album that everyone can access and add new pictures to.
Reliability through RAID
Many NAS devices work with two drives in mirror mode: if one drive fails, all data is still fully intact on the second. We set this up for you.
What We Take Care of During Your NAS Setup
We handle the complete setup, from the physical connection to your router through to the finished backup routine and configured remote access. You tell us what matters to you, we set it up and then show you how to use the NAS in everyday life, without assuming any technical background. More about our other home technology services is available on our overview page.
Set Up, Back Up and Access From Anywhere
What we do for you
We connect the NAS to your router and commission it together with you. We set up user accounts, create shared and private folders and take care of the automatic backup of your phone photos and computer data to the network storage. On request we also set up remote access so you can reach your files from outside, such as holiday photos from a laptop at work or important documents from your smartphone. If your Wi-Fi is too weak for a stable connection, our Wi-Fi optimization helps, and we are happy to handle that in the same appointment. We are regularly out in the neighbourhood, for instance with tech help in Gronau.
- Connect NAS to router and carry out basic configuration
- Set up user accounts, folder structure and access rights
- Configure automatic backup from phone and computer
- Set up remote access securely and test it together
How the Appointment at Your Place Works
We take our time and proceed step by step, without overwhelming you with technical details. By the end of the appointment you should not only have a running NAS but know how to use it yourself going forward. You set the pace. What that looks like locally is shown by tech help in Elze.
Discuss your needs
We listen to what matters to you: how many photos need to be backed up, should all family members have access, do you need remote access from outside the home? This creates a plan that suits you.
Connect and configure the NAS
We connect the NAS to your router, attach the drives and carry out the basic setup: system name, user accounts, folder structure and shares for the devices on the home network.
Set up automatic backup
We configure automatic backup of your most important data: photos from the phone, documents from the computer or laptop. The backup runs in the background without your involvement.
Set up and test remote access
On request we set up secure remote access and test together with you that access works from a smartphone or from outside the home network.
Show and practise operation
Before we leave, we show you how to save files, call them up and check the backup. On request we write down the most important steps for you.
No NAS device yet?
Shall we set up your NAS at your home?
We come to you, set up the network storage, back up your photos and documents automatically and explain everything calmly. Home-visit flat rate 79 €, travel within 10 km included.
What Can Be Stored on Your NAS
Photos and videos
Family photos and holiday videos from all phones and cameras land automatically on the NAS. They no longer live on just one device, and new shots are backed up straight away.
Documents and letters
Contracts, invoices, scanned letters and other important paperwork belong in a reliable backup and should be accessible from all devices.
Music and audiobooks
Your music collection or audiobooks on the NAS can be played directly from any device on the home network, without tedious copying back and forth.
Films and series
Your own video recordings can be stored on the NAS and played back via a smart TV, a projector or a tablet whenever you like.
Shared family areas
Shared folders allow everyone in the household to access photos, school materials or other shared files together, each using their own device.
Full system backup
On request we set up Windows or macOS to back up regularly and completely to the NAS, so the computer can be fully restored if the worst happens.
How a NAS Differs From a Simple External Hard Drive
An external hard drive must be plugged in first and is then only directly visible to one computer. A NAS, on the other hand, is always available on the home network and accessible to all devices at the same time, around the clock and without any action from you. That makes the difference in everyday life: your children's phone photos land automatically on the shared storage and you do not have to ask who currently has the cable. A good complement to the NAS is an additional external backup following the proven 3-2-1 rule (BSI): three copies of your data, on two different media, one of them off-site. You can learn more on our data backup page. Also from our blog: our guide on whole-home Wi-Fi with mesh.
- Always available: the NAS is accessible on the home network around the clock, no need to plug it in
- All devices simultaneously: laptop, phone and tablet access the same storage at the same time
- Automatic backup: phone photos land safely on the NAS with no manual action
- Remote access: access your own files from outside the home without a cloud provider
- Reliability: RAID mirroring protects against data loss if a drive fails
- Privacy: your data stays at home and does not end up in unknown hands
