RAID

Abbreviation for Redundant Array of Independent Disks

In short and in plain language

RAID is a way to link several hard drives in one device.

Such a device may be a storage box on your network.

With mirroring, there is a copy of all data on another drive. So if a drive fails, the data is not lost straight away.

It does not replace a backup.

Definition
RAID means combining several hard drives in one device, such as a network storage box. With mirroring, the data is stored twice, so a failed drive does not straight away mean lost data. It does not replace a backup.
